Growing up, I was drawn towards creative, digital media. I found belonging and happiness in art class crafts to devouring YouTube tutorials, experimenting with makeup, immersing myself in performance art and crafting my own YouTube content. As the digital landscape grew, my love for it did as well.

Being a woman-owned business and a Latina entrepreneur, in the predominantly male-dominated production and technology industry, I found myself wanting to fill the gap.

The gap where women in technology belonged.

The gap where Latina owned businesses thrived.

The gap where a business is built on culture, passion and purpose.

Alexys Carrasquillo

Alexys means “man’s defender” and growing up, I was often described as the peoples defender, driven by my empathy.

While there were moments this sensitivity seemed to be a “curse” it is who I am and has shaped me into an advocate for those facing mistreatment or injustice. In world with no kindness or empathy, my sensitivity is important.

Unnamed Collective is an extension of Familia Creative Media and is the manifestation of this. It is a resource hub and community space.

The Rebel Library is a banned book club started by my good friend Lea Hilton and I. Where we meet monthly to discuss the banned book of the month.

Behind Familia Creative Media

Its important for me as a human, a woman, a Latina to honor my ancestors and their sacrifices that allowed me to be in this position. Fleeing their homelands in search of safety, freedom and a better life for their family. Every media piece I produce is guided through their hands. The name Familia Creative Media bloomed from my Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican roots. My brand identity pays homage to my Taíno lineage. This is for my family, in this physical realm and beyond.

I'm a social justice activist and advocate for mental health care. I am a founding member of the She Dreams In Color™ Foundation, a Charlotte-based non-profit that works to provide free and reduced-cost mental health therapy services to marginalized women. Through this work, we strive to dismantle the barriers to accessing mental health care and challenge societal norms surrounding mental wellness.
